Description

Walt Cunningham's engraved Fisher Space Pen, which "was produced for me and presented to me by Paul Fisher, the inventor of the Fisher Space Pen"

Uncommon 1969 Fisher ‘Space Pen,’ the original brand of ballpoint pens used during the early years of the Apollo program, measuring 5˝ long, engraved on the body, “Walter Cunningham.” Includes its original illustrated presentation box with accompanying two-sided informational insert and order form, which is signed on the front in ink, “From my personal collection, Walt Cunningham, Apollo 7.” In fine condition, with light wear to the box, and smudging to ink on insert.

Accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from Cunningham, which reads: “This is to certify that the accompanying Fisher Space Pen, engraved with the name ‘Walter Cunningham,’ was indeed a part of my personal space collection, and was produced for me and presented to me by Paul Fisher, the inventor of the Fisher Space Pen. This pen also comes with its original, vintage packaging and the instruction page, which I have hand inscribed…This pen is an enduring memento of a historic period in U.S. space exploration, and a popular symbol of the practical technological innovations necessary for space exploration.”

Capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and the gravity-free void of space, these durable Fisher writing pens famously feature a pressurized ink cartridge to allow use in zero-gravity environments, and have side-button retractors. These pens were also used by Russian cosmonauts aboard three Soyuz flights from 1968-69.
