Description

Two Apollo 15 sketches from the 7th man on the moon

Terrific pair of original ballpoint sketches made by Apollo 15 moonwalker Dave Scott on two white 11.75 x 8.25 sheets, one of which is signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, “To Bob with best wishes from Apollo 15, Dave Scott, 5 Feb. ‘04.” Both sheets contain simplified “state vector” diagrams related to the Apollo 15 moon landing, as well as annotations made by Scott, with one reading, “P30: calculates target state vector using T16 state vector x refsmmat” and containing two radical equations, and the other reading “P30, Calcs targets: using state vector / refsmmat." In overall fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corners.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient, who states that he “attended a research interview in Strathblane Country House Hotel, Scotland on 5th February 2004…At this meeting, David R. Scott, Commander of the Apollo 15 Mission, described to the audience in detail, his experiences during the mission and subsequent landing. He supplemented his talk with two sketches…which I later asked him to sign and dedicate to my father…an engineer.”

The Richard Jurek Collection.
