Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “Henry Wells" and "Wm. G. Fargo,” one page, 11.5 x 7.75, August 21, 1863. Handsomely engraved stock certificate for two shares in the American Express Company, issued to Hunloke W. Palmer of New York. Signed at the conclusion by Henry Wells as president, William Fargo as secretary, and Alex Holland as treasurer. Attractively double-matted and framed to an overall size of 17.75 x 14.25. In fine condition, with faint staining.

Henry Wells (1805-1878) was a co-founder, with William Fargo (1818-1881), of both the American Express Company and Wells Fargo & Company.
