Official laminated NASA Manned Spacecraft Center (MSC) identification badge belonging to pioneering astronaut Gordon Cooper, 2.5 x 3.75, the front featuring a small color portrait of Cooper above his surname, “Cooper,” and the NASA emblem, with stamped internal access codes to left and right margins, and the reverse is signed in black ink by Cooper, “Leroy G. Cooper, Jr.,” below his card number, “00724,” and personal information: Date of Birth (3-6-27), Height (5´ 8˝), Weight (150), Hair (Brown), and Eyes (Blue). The bottom bears a stamped signature of Security Officer Donald D. Blume. Includes a modern official color glossy 10.5 x 8 NASA photo signed in black felt tip by Cooper, who is pictured getting his blood pressure checked before the Gemini 5 mission, with this very ID badge clipped to the front of his shirt. In fine condition, with some fading to Cooper's image on the badge.
Accompanied by additional photos and printed images of Cooper wearing this ID badge during his career with NASA, three bearing facsimile signatures inherent to the original photograph. An exceptionally early NASA badge issued to one of America’s most influential and well-known astronauts—official NASA ID badges belonging to members of the original Mercury 7 are rarely offered at market.
