Esteemed Czech composer (1841–1904) of orchestral and chamber music, best known for his Symphony No. 9, 'From the New World.' AMQS on an off-white 8 x 5 sheet, titled and signed at the head in bold ink, "Melodie a motivy [Melodies and Motives], A. Dvorák." Dvorak pens a single-staff musical quotation, approximately 34 measures in length and marked "Andante" (and later, "Adagio"), which includes a few suggestions for harmonies. In fine condition.
We have unable to identify any works directly related to this musical sketch, which Dvorák evidently never developed. Accompanied by an original 1947 Parke-Bernet catalogue entry for the piece, wherein it is described as a "fine specimen."
