King of Spain (born 1527) from 1556 until his death in 1598; his eventful reign included Spain's conquest of the Philippines (named for him), the establishment of a colony in Florida, and the historic defeat of the Spanish Armada by the British in 1588. LS in Spanish, signed 'Yo El Rey [I the King],' one page, 8 x 11.5, August 29, 1560. Untranslated letter sent from Madrid, signed below the neatly penned text in ink by King Phillip II. Matted and framed to an overall size of 14 x 17.5. In fine condition, with some show through from docketing on reverse.
