Description

TLS signed “Uncle Orv,” two pages, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, December 11, 1933. Letter to his grand-nephew, Wilbur Wright, sending him a printing press. In part: "The big press has won out. It ought to be in Wichita within a week. Now it will be up to you to get it into the basement!! The men who move pianos ought to be able to move the press. The weight is 1160 pounds.

If the press comes entirely assembled you will have to take the crankshaft out to get it through the doors. The crankshaft and flywheel can be taken off without a great deal of trouble. The small gear on the right hand side will have to be removed, the bearing removed, and the shaft slipped sidewise out of the frame. Provision is made in the shape of the opening in the frame for slipping the crank through…

Be careful with the ink rollers. Never let them stand on type or on the ink disk. I am sending a planer and mallet and a proof planer all made from Hawthorn Hill walnut and honey locust." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
