Description

British general (1833–1885) who, in 1860, crushed the Taiping Rebellion in China, earning the nickname 'Chinese.' ALS signed “C. G. Gordon,” one page both sides, 4.75 x 7.75, August 4, 1880. Handwritten letter to J. Sanderson Lyster, written from Tientsin, China. In full: "I have just received your of 13 May. Sorry not to have seen you, however we will meet again, for as I have lost my comm'n and cannot stay in this country more than three months I shall have to go to colonies." In fine condition.
