Description

DS, twelve pages, 8.5 x 13, November 18, 1937. Contract between Thomas Mitchell and Samuel Goldwyn Inc., Ltd., with the latter agreeing to employ Mitchell for a period of one year commencing on January 3, 1938, at a rate of $1500 per week. Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Mitchell, who adds his initials, "TM," a total of seven times throughout the document, indicating his approval of amended clauses. In fine condition. Given his filmography, this short-term contract did not appear to result in any significant collaboration between Mitchell and Samuel Goldwyn. However, the period immediately following proved exceptional for Mitchell’s career, as he went on to appear in a remarkable string of classic films over the next few years, including Stagecoach (1939), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), and Gone with the Wind (1939).

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
