Description

"I still have to spend part of the day in bed but you shall not perceive anything of it when I am playing your music"

ALS in German, signed “F. Liszt,” one page both sides, 5 x 8, April 14, 1857. Handwritten letter to a friend, in part (translated): "Our concert is to take place next Wednesday the 22nd. I reckon on having the pleasure of seeing you at the general rehearsal. My indisposition has not quite passed off & I still have to spend part of the day in bed but you shall not perceive anything of it when I am playing your music. I am looking forward to this evening with much pleasure & hope it will go off quite as I want it to do." He adds a postscript: "You shall hear more definitely about the rehearsal shortly." A note penned on the integral leaf in another hand reads, in full (translated): "This letter refers to a concert given in the theatre at Weimar & at which Liszt's 'Symphony Prometheus' & my husband's oratorio 'Wiefried' were performed." In fine condition, with light edge creasing.
