Belgian painter (1897-1994) associated with the Surrealist movement, best known for his female nudes. ALS in French, signed “Paul,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, August 1, 1946. Handwritten letter to "Mon cher Claude," in part (translated): "It seems that you are forgiven, work is the only thing to do and that will make us overcome our fate." He explains that he draws a little but for the moment doesn't paint, and is working on some designs that he hopes to complete by the end of August. He comments on Van Hecke and drawings for "The Storm," and refers to an exhibition of Giorgio de Chirico's works in Paris. At the bottom of one page, Delvaux draws a magnificent sketch of a ship sailing toward Toronto, with mermaids on the bowsprit and in the sea. In fine condition.
