"Anyone with a discerning eye who has seen me in concert during the last five years will know that I am a Gianni Versace fanatic"—Eric Clapton's handwritten statement on his own custom line of Versace stage costumes, printed inside the program for his massive 1990 Journeyman Tour

Handwritten “Versace notes for program” statement by Eric Clapton, unsigned, which was printed in the program for his Journeyman concert tour of 1990. The manuscript, which is penned neatly in black ink by Clapton on two off-white 6 x 8 sheets, discusses the Journeyman tour up to that point and his privilege to wear custom Versace onstage: “The year of 1989 was a momentous one for me, both personally and professionally…following twelve great shows at the Albert Hall, I made the most honest and, for me, satisfying album for many years, and fell in love at the same time…as it turned out, the album survived rather better than the romance…This was followed by a tour of Africa and Israel which served to introduce my new band member Phil Palmer to the rigours and joys of touring with the E.C. madhouse…the year was rounded out with much album promotion, and three guest appearances with the Stones, which will be among my favourite memories of the year. Now here we are in 1990 looking at a world tour which will put the seal of authenticity on my new found title of Journeyman…

Anyone with a discerning eye who has seen me in concert during the last five years will know that I am a Gianni Versace fanatic…I think I have bought something from one of his shops in almost every city in the world (he hasn’t opened one in Swaziland yet). His approach to design and his sensitivity to colour appeal to the dormant artist in me, and somehow I feel that his clothes bridge the gap between the fire of rock and roll and the purity of classical tailoring…I have spent a small fortune on his clothes over the years, and now, at last, I am able to wear onstage a line of costumes which have been designed exclusively for me…It is a great honour, and dream come true, eat your heart out Phil…” Clapton adds at the end, “Versace notes for program. An unknown hand has made edits in red ink. Includes an original Journeyman program, which features the above statement printed on the front cover’s French-fold flap. In very fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

Originates from the estate of graphic designer Bogdan Zarkowski, the designer of the program.
