Description

Two items presented to Helen Keyes, a longtime, trusted assistant to the Kennedy family: a vintage semi-glossy 7.25 x 9 silver gelatin photograph of John F. Kennedy, affixed to its original 11 x 14 mount, which is signed and inscribed in ballpoint, “For Helen Keyes – with deep appreciation for her loyal service to the President – from the very beginning, Devotedly, Jacqueline Kennedy”; and a TLS from Robert F. Kennedy, signed “Bobby,” one page, 7 x 9, Attorney General letterhead, October 24, 1962, in full: “Polly talked to Angie today and told her of your mother’s serious illness. I am so sorry to hear it and I want you to know that Ethel and I shall pray for her speedy recovery.” Kennedy adds a handwritten note below, “Love to you.” In overall very good to fine condition, with some slight damage to the edges of the mount, easily matted out to create an attractive display; and an upper crease, and light stains and smudges to the letter. Keyes was deeply involved with JFK's political career, hosting events, managing campaigns (1952 Senate, 1960 Presidential), and continuing her service through his administration. Her father was the family dentist, creating a strong family connection, and she even served as administrator for the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.
