Description

"Drink it and you will see the sunshine and shadow chasing each other over the billowly cornfield, the dew of morning, the breath of summer"

Scottish whisky distiller (1864–1930) who, with his brother, built their family company John Dewar & Sons into an international success. TLS signed “Dewar,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.5 x 9.5, Dewar House letterhead, October 8, 1929. Letter to "My dear Foster," in part: "I hope you will have a happy evening on your 71st anniversary. Three-score years and ten do sum up a length of happy days, but you have gone one better and that you may go on and reach the century is my hope and my desire.

I am arranging to send you, to the Red Lion Hotel, Wendover, two bottles of the finest whisky that ever drove the skeleton from the feast or painted landscapes in the brain of man. Drink it and you will see the sunshine and shadow chasing each other over the billowly cornfield, the dew of morning, the breath of summer and the wealth of autumn's rich content, all golden with imprisoned light. Drink it and you will hear the voices of men and maidens singing 'The Harvest Home,' mingled with the joy of children, and you will feel within your blood the dawn of a new born vigour." In very good to fine condition, with soiling, small stains, and intersecting folds.
