Description

Member of the Augsburg family of Fugger, Reich Graf and art collectors (1489-1535) considered one of the most significant figures of the Renaissance. Manuscript DS, signed "Raymundus Anthoni vnd Jheromus Fugger," in German, one page both sides, 8.75 x 12, February 22, 1528. Intricately penned document beginning (translated): "The noble Lord and Master will well remember that he still owes us the sum of 440 fl. for the silver." The writers refuse a request for remitting the debt; rather, the sum is to be paid "to our servant Jheromus Widemann at the Hohenkirchen works," with an extensive recapitulation of the reasons for the delay of the long outstanding payment. Smaller integral second page bears an intact paper seal. In very good condition, with scattered light foxing, and staining and loss to the right edge, slightly affecting some text.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
