TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, March 14, 1968. Letter to Maurice E. St. Mary, in part: "Your letter was so encouraging at a time when we are facing a most serious family problem. It is of great comfort to know that people who are not personally involved care and we are grateful to you. We know the only real solution is the love and understanding we as a family give our son, and it is our intention to give everything we have to pull him through this critical condition. I have faith that our family ties are strong and that with God's help we will come through this crisis. Again our thanks. You will never know how much your interest means to our family." In fine condition.
Jackie Robinson's son, Jackie Robinson Jr., struggled deeply with drug addiction after serving in the Vietnam War, a battle that brought pain and public scrutiny to the Robinson family. Robinson Jr. eventually completed the treatment program at Daytop Village in Seymour, Connecticut, eventually becoming a counselor at the institution and speaking openly about the dangers of drug use. Tragically, he was killed in an automobile accident at age 24.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
