Beautician (1884–1966) who developed the highly successful cosmetic line that bears her name. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, March 18, 1949. Letter to D. Paul Reed, executive director of the National Information Bureau. In full: "Thank you for your letter of March tenth and your interest in determining whether or not my name is being used by the National Cancer Foundation with my permission. The answer to all of your questions is 'no.'
I am not a sponsor or a trustee of the National Cancer Foundation. I have not attended meetings of the board. I am not acquainted with its methods of operation or financial condition. Furthermore, since they have made unauthorized use of my name, I do not approve of their present activities.
This situation has only recently been brought to my attention by Chairman John Reed Kilpatrick of the New York City Cancer Committee of the American Cancer Society with which I am affiliated, and on March ninth I wrote a letter to the National Cancer Foundation requesting them to remove my name from their stationery.
I am still awaiting a reply from the National Cancer Foundation to the letter I wrote them March ninth. There has certainly been ample time for an answer to my letter which will be followed by another if I do not here within the next few days." In fine condition.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
