American physician (1837-1932) who was the first brain surgeon in the United States. During his lifetime, Keen worked with six American presidents. Vintage matte-finish 6.5 x 9.25 portrait photo of William W. Keen in uniform by the Gilbert & Bacon Studio of Allentown, Pennsylvania, signed and inscribed in the lower border in ink, "To the W. W. Keen Medical Club of Providence, R.I., with kind regards of W. W. Keen, Philadelphia, October 1925," with Keen adding the date of the above portrait, "Taken in 1917.” In fine condition, with tastefully trimmed edges, and a lightly silvered crease in the right border.
