Esteemed French Neoclassical painter (1780–1867) whose portraits are considered an influential precursor to modern art. ALS in French, signed “J. Ingres,” one page, 5.25 x 8, February 1, 1845. Handwritten letter to "Monsieur Fain," director of the Commission for the Civil List. In part (translated): "The same circumstance as last year occurs again today with my small interests. May I thus ask, Sir, that you please arrange for me to receive during the month of February the sum of FF seven thousand allocated to me for 8 pictures that I executed for his Royal Majesty the Duke of Dreux. I shall remain, Sir, infinitely grateful for this new service." In fine condition, with a small stain and trivial corner loss.
