Matte-finish 5 x 7 photograph of John C. Buttre’s famous engraving of President Abraham Lincoln, which was modeled after his 1864 sitting with photographer Mathew Brady and is framed by a vignette border designed by William Momberger, which depicts images of fugitive slaves, and personifications of Rebellion and Peace. Affixed to its original 8.5 x 10.5 presentation mount, the edges of which have been trimmed. In very good to fine condition, with scattered small stains. John Chester Buttre (1821-1893) was an American steel-plate engraver and lithographer responsible for some 3,000 portraits of American political, naval, and military personalities, including Presidents James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln.
