War on poverty—King George III authorizes the Bishop of London to solicit donations "towards the support and relief of our said poor subjects"

Manuscript DS, signed "George R," one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.25, February 12, 1799. A document directed to the Bishop of London authorizing him to solicit donations "towards the support and relief of our said poor subjects" and providing for the distribution of funds for the poor from the Royal Treasury. Signed prominently at the top of the first page by King George III, and countersigned by William Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland, who twice served as prime minister. In fine condition, with some slightly irregular light toning.
