Prominent American composer and critic (1896-1989). Fabulous AMQS on an off-white 13.5 x 9.75 musically lined sheet with an illustrated border, signed and inscribed at the top in fountain pen, "With grateful greetings to Frank Zolt, Virgil Thomson, Dec. 24, 1965." Below, Thomson titles the piece and signs again, "A Solemn Music, Virgil Thomson," penning eight bars of music for instruments including bass clarinet, horns, field drum, tam-tam, violas, cello, and bass. Mounted and framed to an overall size of 16 x 12.75. In fine condition.
