With the advice and consent of the Senate, President Polk commissions "a Professor of Mathematics in the Navy"

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.25 x 18, August 14, 1848. President Polk appoints William B. Benedict, "with the advice & consent of the Senate," as "a Professor of Mathematics in the Navy." Crisply signed at the conclusion in ink by President James K. Polk, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy John Y. Mason. The white Navy Department seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. In fine condition.
