Vintage matte-finish 8 x 11 bust photo of William H. Taft in a suit and tie, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen, "For Morton C. Smithson of my constitutional law class, Yale College 1920, with my best wishes for his success, Wm. H. Taft, Feb'y 6th 1920." In fine condition, with some spots of silvering to the image. Taft taught law at Yale University for eight years (1913-1921) after leaving the White House, holding the Kent Professor of Constitutional Law title, a significant post-presidency role before becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
