Attractive stainless steel ring issued to members of the 1980 United States Olympic Team. The ring, size 12, 14 gm, features a head with a U.S. Olympic shield over a flaming relay torch and encircled with text, “United States Olympic Team, 1980.” The shanks bear matching emblems of “USA” and the Olympic rings within a laurel wreath. The inside is stamped, “Artcarved, Siladium,” and bears the etched initials, “DCB.”
A historically fascinating Team USA ring that combines Olympic spirit with Cold War tension. In February of that year, the Lake Placid Winter Games featured the ‘Miracle on Ice,’ a massive upset victory of the U.S. men’s hockey team over the Soviet Union. Roughly five months later, the United States led sixty-five countries in boycotting the 1980 Moscow Summer Games to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
