Description

ALS signed “Jno. Wanamaker,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 7, personal letterhead, May 25, 1880. Handwritten letter to "Mr. Gough," presumably the temperance orator John Bartholomew Gough. In part: "I made public announcement of your intention to labor in Phil'a for a week…in the interest of Temperance. The prospect of your coming has given a wonderful enthusiasm to all the workers. Yesterday I was called on to ask you…to fix the time the 2nd or 3rd week in November when there will be a ministerial convention for 2 days held in Phil'a composed of ministers of all this region. Will this suit you—if not when?" In very good to fine condition, with partial splitting to the hinge, and light toning and small stains to the first page.
