Description

Union general (1827-1905) who became better known as the author of the best-selling religio-historical novel Ben-Hur. ALS, one page, 6 x 9.25, April 5, 1886. Handwritten letter to Rev. Anson Smyth, in part: "I cannot yet say whether my wife can accompany me to your city. Of that further on. I have just written to our friend Gen. Leggett thanking him for his invitation to stay with him, but declining it on account of the duties that will be required…I will therefore be greatly obliged if you will engage me quarters at a convenient hotel." In fine condition.
