American businessman and philanthropist (1843–1899) who succeeded his father and grandfather as head of the New York Central Railroad. DS signed “C. Vanderbilt,” one page, 10.75 x 7.25, no date (1880s). Handsomely engraved unissued stock certificate for the Beech Creek, Clearfield & South Western Railroad Company, signed below by Cornelius Vanderbilt II as treasurer, and countersigned by William A. Wallace as president. In fine condition. Originally chartered in 1882, the Beech Creek Railroad operated in central Pennsylvania between Jersey Shore and Mahaffey.
