Hungarian-born conductor of opera and symphonic music in the 20th century (1888-1963) who reached the pinnacle of his career while music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the 1950s and early 1960s. Two items: an ink signature and inscription, “For the 1001st autograph pest, Miss Althea Botell, with best wishes for more victims, Fritz Reiner, Westport, June 1946,” on an off-white 6 x 4.5 album page; and an AMQS in ink on an off-white 6 x 4.25 album page, signed by Reiner who writes: “My favorite composition is always the last one, which I have conducted. This time it is ‘The soldier’s tale.’ Alas! By Stravinsky & not by Fritz Reiner, New York, Jan. 1934.” Reiner adds three bars of music from the referenced work by Igor Stravinsky. In overall fine condition.
