Eucrite

Eucrites are a rare type of meteorite that come from Asteroid Vesta. This huge asteroid is located between Mars and Jupiter and is in fact the second largest object in the asteroid belt. It orbits the Sun with a period of 3.6 Earth years and has a diameter of 525 kilometres. Less than 1 billion years ago, a great impact occurred in the South hemisphere of Vesta, ejecting rocks from the asteroid into space. Eventually some of these rocks fell on Earth.
NWA 8583 was discovered in 2014 in the Sahara Desert and it was classified as an eucrite. In this slice many clasts and textures can be seen in different lithologies, which help us to understand the complexity of its parent body.
