Description

King of Prussia (born 1712) from 1740 until his death in 1786, whose political prowess and enlightened attitudes toward religion, learning, and the humanities earned him the sobriquet 'Frederick the Great.' Autograph endorsement signed in German, one page, 8 x 13.25, April 2, 1743. Final page of a letter from the Electorate of Brandenburg's War and Domain Chamber, for which the ministers sign, regarding the employment and remuneration of "the type cutter and foundryman Schmidt, established here from The Hague, who is willing and skilled at recutting all the necessary Latin typefaces in Dutch style." At the lower left, Frederick approves his employment: "If the person establishes himself here, then it's good, F." In fine condition, with scattered light foxing, and a small chip to the top edge.
