I did not know what Colonel Reeves had done, but I want that regiment, and I want especially to have you. Personally, if I could do it, I would like to have in my division no one that was not whole, or in part, of German blood, as you and I are! I would like to show that we are Americans, and nothing else, and that we would serve against England, or Germany, or any other nation, if the interests of humanity, and the honor of the United States demanded that we should do so. I am very glad of that advice you gave the Governor. The Holy Alliance fiasco is an exact case in point. As you say, I think it is for us to work out our salvation, not merely to speak it out, or gesture it out. Three cheers for your final sentence!
