Partly-printed DS, one page, 22.5 x 17, January 30, 1890. Membership certificate for the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. In part: "Know ye, that Lieutenant Colonel John Moore Studley, 51st Massachusetts State Militia, in U.S. Service, Having been specially distinguished for faithful services…was received as a Companion of the First Class of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States." Nicely signed at the conclusion by Rutherford B. Hayes (using his uncommon full signature), and countersigned by recorder John P. Nicholson. The red seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with minor loss to the upper right corner, some light stains, and a few tears that have been repaired on the back.
