ALS, one page, 4.5 x 6, 11 Mallord Street letterhead, May 1, 1920. Handwritten letter to "Mr. Bennett," in part: "You know, I don't really think that I am better than Shakespeare; it is only that 'Shakespeare and Milne' would be even more deadly than pure Milne. But I am much too proud that you like any of the play to resent your finding fault with the rest of it, and I shall be very grateful for your advice." In fine condition, with a small rusty paperclip stain to the bottom edge. Earlier in January of the same year, Milne's first successful play, Mr. Pim Passes By, opened in London and ran for 246 performances. This is likely the play he refers to here.
