Ashishishe, known as Curly, (1856–1923), was a Crow scout in the United States Army during the Sioux Wars. He was one of the few survivors on the United States side at the Battle of Little Bighorn, and was the first to report the defeat of the 7th Cavalry Regiment. Outstanding 7 x 4 cabinet photo of the Crow scout on horseback at the Custer Monument, taken years after the Battle of the Little Bighorn, published by F. Jay Haynes of Fargo, Dakota Territory, as part of a "Northern Pacific Views" series. In very good condition, with a central vertical crease and light foxing and toning.
