Indian Wars–era cavalry officer's kepi, handsomely constructed of navy blue wool with a worn bullion officer's cavalry hat badge on the crown; brass eagle side buttons hold a gold twisted wire officer's hat cord and leather chinstrap, evidently added to secure the hat while riding on horseback. The leather sweatband has wrapped with cloth for comfort in warm climates and shows service wear; also exhibits some scattered creasing to the brim.
