Description

Late World War II–production Japanese Type 99 Rifle by Nagoya Arsenal with Type 30 Bayonet, serial #(Series 8) 8490, 7.7mm Arisaka, 26" barrel with a dark, ringed bore. This is a Nagoya marked rifle with fixed rear sight and no front sight protectors. There are matching numbers on the bolt components and nosecap, although the imperial chrysanthemum was ground off the receiver. The metal retains 50-60% of the original blue with a mellow plum-brown patina on the balance. There is some trace silvering at the muzzle, as well as on the bearing surfaces of the bolt, and there is a small amount of mild pinprick pitting scattered about the metal. The bolt itself is functional, but does not have a correct firing pin spring, but rather a short external spring attached to the safety (possibly a field replacement). The stock and handguard are in about good-very good overall condition with numerous handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the military oil finish. This rifle was never outfitted with provision for a cleaning rod, the forearm was never duffel-cut under the barrel band, and the original wooden buttplate is intact. Also included with the rifle is a Nagoya marked Type 30 hooked quillon bayonet that measures 20" overall, with a 15 1/2" straight, single-edged blade having wide single fullers. The blade retains 80-85% of the original blued finish with dull gray metal on the balance. The steel guard and pommel have a plum-brown patina throughout and the wooden grip panels are in fair shape with numerous small blemishes on either side. The steel scabbard is in very good shape, and no frog is included. Transferable under FFL or C&R.
