British Army officer (1860–1933) who is the only soldier in the history of the British Army to have risen from an enlisted rank to its highest rank of field marshal; he served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS)—the professional head of the British Army—from 1916 to 1918 during World War I. Vintage matte-finish 5.75 x 7.75 photo of Robertson in his decorated military uniform, signed in fountain pen, "W. R. Robertson, F.M., 1927." Affixed to a slightly larger mount and in fine condition.
