Partly-printed DS, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 13.75 x 17, February 28, 1868. As governor of Ohio, Hayes appoints Joseph McCutchins "to be a Notary Public, for the County of Ashland." Neatly signed at the conclusion in ink by Governor Rutherford B. Hayes and countersigned by Secretary of State John Russell. The embossed paper seal remains intact at lower left. In very good to fine condition, with creasing, small stains, some light toning, and tape reinforcements to the back of the intersecting folds; Hayes's signature is clear, dark, and otherwise unaffected.
