Description

"I'd love to hear all your other 'war' stories about Jack and Bobby's campaigns! "

TLS signed “Ted, So many thanks Liz,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 1, 2008. Letter to Elizabeth B. Moynihan, widow of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, in part: "Many, many, many thanks for your beautiful letter. You were so kind to write, and I'm very sorry not to have replied before now. You certainly gave me new strength for the weeks ahead, and I'm very grateful. I know how difficult these past weeks have been for you because of Tim's loss, and my heart certainly goes out to you. I have many warm memories of his great years on Pat's staff, especially all they did together for Northern Ireland. As you know so well, faith and family and friends are what get us through these hard times…I'd love to hear all your other 'war' stories about Jack and Bobby's campaigns! And I loved your statement on Barack—mugging included!" In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.

A native of Massachusetts, Elizabeth Moynihan (1929–2023) got her start in politics by volunteering in John F. Kennedy's 1952 Senate campaign and Adlai Stevenson's presidential campaign. She would later become substantially involved in her husband's political career, particularly in strategizing against his electoral challengers.
