Description

British politician (1869–1940) who served as prime minister from 1937 to 1940, and is remembered for his foreign policy of appeasement toward Nazi Germany; by signing the Munich Agreement in 1938, he allowed Hitler to annex Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland in what is now recognized as one of the major early steps toward World War II. TLS signed “N. Chamberlain,” one page, 8 x 9.75, 37 Eaton Square letterhead, March 23, 1931. Letter to influential British newspaper publisher Max Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook, marked "Personal & Private." In full: "There is now a lull in the storm; is not this a good opportunity to make contact again? If you would care for a talk some day this week, will you let me know what your movements are, and I will gladly see you here, or come to you if you prefer it." In fine condition, with two file holes to the left edge.
