"A thousand thanks for the Gerome medal," writes Saint-Gaudens, "and excuse the brevity of a hurried but grateful sculptor"

French-Irish sculptor (1848–1907) of the Beaux-Arts generation who embodied the ideals of the American Renaissance, known for his Civil War memorials and for the design of the iconic $20 Double Eagle gold coin. ALS, signed "A. St. Gaudens," one page, 5 x 8, February 9, 1893. Handwritten letter to Mr. Henri, in full: "A thousand thanks for the Gerome medal which I return to you today by registered letter. Please drop me a note that you have received it and excuse the brevity of a hurried but grateful sculptor." In very fine condition.
