Description

Extremely rare complimentary admittance pass from the “Yale Foot Ball Club,” 4.5 x 2.25, November 18, 1876. The pass admits “F. W. Davis, Esq. and Ladies," and is signed in ink by the club president Frederick B. Percy, "F. B. Percy." In very fine condition.

Yale defeated Harvard 1-0 on this day—only the second time Harvard and Yale played. Yale’s next game, against Princeton, was on Thanksgiving Day, November 30, 1876, and was the first collegiate football game played on Thanksgiving. Yale went on to be named National Champions in 1876 with a 3-0 record. Walter Camp, known as the 'Father of American Football' played on Yale’s 1876 team.

Frederick B. Percy (1836-1928), who signs as president of the club, graduated from Yale the following Spring (1877). He became a physician and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Boston University.
