Manuscript DS, signed “Walpole” and "H Pelham," three pages on two adjoining sheets, 9 x 14, February 21, 1721/2. Document reimbursing William Tims, Under Sheriff of London and Middlesex, for amounts he paid to others for the apprehension and conviction of Highwaymen (i.e., robbers), Clippers (i.e, shavers of coins), Coyners (i.e., counterfeiters), and Housebreakers, naming those convicted of said crimes. Signed at the conclusion in ink by Robert Walpole, George Baillie, and Henry Pelham as Commissioners of the Treasury under King George I. In very good to fine condition, with creasing, soiling, and various small archival repairs.
Walpole was a British Whig statesman (1676–1745) and the first prime minister of Great Britain, who served during the reigns of George I and II. Pelham (1676–1745) was a fellow Whig and served as Great Britain's third prime minister from 1721 to 1745.
