Description

Politician and financial genius (1761-1849) responsible for the formation of what is now known as the Ways and Means Committee. ALS as Secretary of the Treasury, one page, 8 x 9.75, February 11, 1806. Handwritten letter to William McPherson, Lighthouse Superintendent at Philadelphia. In full: "I wish to know your opinion, whether supposing the salaries of the keepers of the light houses of Sandy hook and Cape Henry to be fixed at 400 dollars a year, that of Cape Halifax should not be placed on the same footing." In fine condition, with light toning along the topmost fold.
