Texas Governor Sam Houston approves payment for "protection of the frontier"

Partly-printed DS, one page, 8 x 3.25, December 10, 1860. Treasury warrant issued to Shields A. Hogan for $91.30 for "protection of the frontier, this amount being for services as Private in Capt. Burleson's Company." Signed on the front in ink by Treasurer Cyrus Halbert Randolph and Comptroller Clement R. Johns (Johns's signature canceled), and endorsed on the reverse by Governor Sam Houston and Comptroller Clement R. Johns. Attractively matted and framed with a plaque and hand-colored engraving to an overall size of 16.5 x 24.5; a window in the frame's backing allows the front to be viewed. In fine condition, with some light toning and soiling.
