ALS signed “G. Bernard Shaw,” one page, 8.25 x 5, April 28, 1915. Partial handwritten letter, penned on the reverse of a typed letter in French. In part: "I really cannot see how any English or French subject can have the audacity to address the King of the Belgians, much less rise to such a climax of impudence as to ask him to send the message on to his son. The plain fact is that whereas Belgium has fought desperately to keep the Germans out of France and away from the Channel ports, neither France nor England has done anything to save Belgium from devastation. Under such circumstances compliments from France and England on Belgian heroism become insufferable impertinences. The occasion calls for abject apologies; and if we are not prepared to offer these we should at least have the grace to hold our tongues." In fine condition, with light show-through from the correspondent's typed letter on the back.
