ALS signed “Doc,” (as frequently done when writing to his wife) one page both sides, 8.25 x 10.25, beautiful color 'Avalon, Catalina Island' stationery, May 29, no year [circa 1926]. Handwritten letter to “Dear Old Muddy,” ostensibly his wife, Dolly, in part: “Your letter & note came from K. C. Well, you will go gallivanting away from Dad? I was tickled to pieces with all that story of mud…You are crazy, my love…But I hope you are safe in a house…All serene here. I am pretty good. The children fine. Mildred has come round to be nicer…and I have hopes she will continue so. I am working along. Damn hard, too! 17 pages yesterday, 8 ½ hours. And I am tired. This morning, Hildred, the kids, and Mildred go horse-back riding with an attendant. I have a wonderful idea, which if I would spring on you, and then go back on it, you would die. So I must wait. But go take care of yourself, or you might ruin something. I am sure anxious to get reports from you passing the city of my birth, and of Phila, and New York…So hurry you old deserter!” In fine condition, with loss to the lower left corner, affecting a couple of words of text.
