Signed book: The Tibbets Story. Second printing. NY: Stein and Day, 1978. Hardcover with dust jacket, 6.5 x 9.25, 316 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page in blue ballpoint, "To Matt Weisman, at the suggestion of Bill Watt—with best personal regards, Paul W. Tibbets, Columbus, Ohio, October 15, 1980." In fine condition.
General Tibbets was the lead pilot in the lead plane on the first American daylight bombing raid on Nazi-occupied Europe in 1942. He was later chosen to command the 509th Composite Group that trained and flew the two atomic bombs on Japan. Tibbets flew the B-29 'Enola Gay' which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This autobiography is a very candid telling of a brilliant career in the US Air Force.
