Partly-printed vellum DS, one page, 15.25 x 19.25, February 3, 1896. President Cleveland appoints Edwin Forbes Glenn as "Captain of Infantry in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion in ink by President Grover Cleveland and countersigned by Secretary of War Daniel S. Lamont. The blue seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and toning, trimmed edges, and an area of thin vellum along the left edge.
Edwin Forbes Glenn (1857–1926) was a United States Army officer best known for his roles as an explorer, educator, and commander. He led the Cook Inlet Exploring Expedition in Alaska in 1898 and later organized and commanded the 83rd Infantry Division during World War I. Glenn's legacy includes significant contributions to military mapping and exploration, as well as namesakes in Mount Glenn and Fort Glenn, Alaska.
